چکیده

The failure of induction of tryptophan pyrrolase (TP) in the majority of hepatomas after the administration of substrate or hormone was shown probably to be the result of a basic defect in the tumor cell itself, and not of the lowered blood flow or the lack of portal blood supply to the tumor. Two exceptions, Hepatomas H-35 and 7793, were shown to have a significant sub strate induction in the intact but not in the adrenalectomized host. The absence of "pure" substrate induction in these heptomas was interpreted in the

Hormonal and substrate induction of tryptophan pyrrolase in regenerating rat liver.

The induction of tryptophan pyrrolase by hydroeortisone has been studied in rats following 70% hepatectomy. An alteration in the rate of induction was observed in both sham-operated and 70% hepatectomized rats early in the postoperative period. Normal maximal values were eventually reached, however. Later in the postoperative period, induction patterns were similar to those observed in unoperat...

Metabolic adaptations in rat hepatomas. II. Tryptophan pyrrolase and tyrosine alpha-ketoglutarate transaminase.

The administration of t ryptophan or cortisone to rats bearing the Morris 5123 Hepatoma resulted in significant increases in t ryptophan pyrrolase activity in the host liver but in no change in the low tryptophan pyrrolase activity of the neoplasm. The repressed level of this enzyme in the neoplasm was not a result of the lack or excess of cofactors or enzymes necessary for the assay procedure ...

The activation and induction of rat liver tryptophan pyrrolase in vivo by its substrate.

Parenteral administration of tryptophan has been shown to increase markedly rat liver tryptophan pyrrolase activity (1). This phenomenon is often referred to as induction or adaptation due to its similarity to substrate-induced enzyme formation in microorganisms. The preceding article (2) documents the presence of a factor in microsomes which activates tryptophan pyrrolase of normal liver cell ...

The specificity of tryptophan analogues as inducers, substrates, inhibitors, and stabilizers of liver tryptophan pyrrolase.

In animals, liver tryptophan pyrrolase was induced independently by administration of its substrate L-tryptophan (I), and of the hormone hydrocortisone (2). Some analogues of tryptophan which are not substrates of the tryptophan pyrrolase, such as c+mcthyl-DL-tryptophan (3) and D-tryptophan,’ have been reported to induce the enzyme in intact animals. Since a substance may cause enzyme induction...
